IT Strategy, Planning and Partnership Manager

We are recruiting for IT Strategy, Planning and Partnerships Manager, to help define and then drive the union’s Technology strategy over the next two years.

This is a new role reporting to the People and Operations Director with ongoing strategic support for the union’s Senior Management Team.

Prospect is an organisation undertaking a digital transformation and the successful candidate will be responsible for leading on all strands of the union’s Technology strategy.

This will include planning and overseeing significant change activity, leading and line managing the Technology team, collaborating with union colleagues, especially Digital leads, ensuring high performance and strong relationships with all third-party technology partners.

This role is perfect for an individual with a proven track record of technology strategy development, delivery, and reporting, with experience in delivering transformation. 

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • IT qualifications e.g., ITIL.
  • No less than five years’ experience in IT Strategy/IT Senior Management roles.
  • Experience of on-premises and cloud technologies and ways of working.
  • Demonstrable experience driving internal IT service performance.
  • Demonstrable experience driving 3rd party IT service performance.
  • Strong leadership, management, and coaching skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially with senior stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational, strategic planning and executive-level reporting skills.
  • Excellent understanding of Technology and Data operations and procedures.
  • Excellent understanding of Data Governance, especially GDPR.
  • Excellent project, programme or change management skills

BECTU – a sector of Prospect, is the trade union for those working in the media, entertainment, digital and communications industry. Established in 2010, BECTU Vision delivers targeted short courses and a drama training programme of activity to support the skills development of freelance film and television practitioners in Scotland. BECTU Vision is funded by Screen Scotland, Scottish Union Learning and BBC

We are currently seeking to engage a Co-ordinator to support the Project Managers in running this dynamic project.  The role will join the team in all the work they do with a focus on supporting new entrants working in the film & tv industry in Scotland.

The post will be based in Glasgow. We promote a flexible working environment and will accept applications for part-time working, job-sharing and will consider other requests for flexibility.  Some flexibility in hours worked may occasionally be required to meet the needs of the learning programme.

What the role entails

  • Develop and deliver a year-round programme of events supporting new entrants working in Scotland’s film & tv industry
  • Develop and create materials and resources for new entrants
  • Provide advice and guidance for pre and new entrants
  • Source and produce practical marketing and promotional materials for the learning project and events e.g Pop-up banners, bags, stationery, flyers etc
  • Logistics including booking rooms and facilities, setting up online sessions via zoom, printing of support materials, setting up of event rooms including ICT equipment, arranging travel and accommodation, catering and registering of learners as necessary
  • Setting up and maintenance of online booking, monitoring and marketing systems for activities and events. This includes drafting marketing copy for events and promoting through the various digital platforms such as SurveyMonkey, Eventbrite, Mailchimp, BECTU Vision website, Twitter & Facebook
  • Undertake office administration as required to support the Project Managers include the upkeep and maintenance of office systems and financial records
  • Ensure that the project complies with General Data Protection Regulations
  • Supporting Project Managers with preparation of reports and presentations
  • Co-ordinate the project in line with Funder’s requirements and Union practices
  • Undertake personal and professional learning and development appropriate to the role
  • Support and promote union campaigns more broadly
  • Undertake additional duties appropriate to the grade

Skills

Essential:

  • Excellent administrative, organisational and communication skills
  • Experience working in the film & tv industry
  • Comfortable delivering information and advice sessions in person or online.
  • Excellent IT skills (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel and the ability to work with online booking and marketing tools such as Eventbrite, Mailchimp and SurveyMonkey). Training will be provided for specific software, unions and project information systems.
  • A commitment to union values including equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Demonstrable experience of working unsupervised
  • Prepared to work occasional evenings/weekends as agreed

About the role

We’re looking for an experienced, senior communications professional to help shape the way we engage in the media, digital and entertainment industries.

You will need to:

  • Provide leadership to our communications in Bectu helping to recruit, support and represent our members.
  • Manage a small team working on media, social media, digital and campaigns
  • Provide senior level advice as well as managing relationships with other staff
  • Be an agile communicator, targeting a range of audiences
  • Be confident in dealing with the media including pitching stories
  • Understand Bectu’s public affairs priorities and be able to work with partner organisations and external stakeholders
  • Want to make the world of work better for everyone through promoting membership and the values of the trade union movement.

This role fits into our wider Communications team in Prospect – a 14-strong team working across media, campaigns, publications, marketing and digital.

This role will work to the head of our Bectu Sector and Head of Communications and Public Affairs. You will be working with colleagues in the communications team but also with other members of staff, elected representatives, and members from across Bectu.

We are looking for an experienced public affairs professional. In this role you will represent the union’s members at the highest levels as well as supporting members, activists, and senior officials in advocating for the union.

You will need to: 

  • Have a deep knowledge of the political situation, both in Westminster and in the devolved administrations.
  • Be organised and proactive in further developing your network with politicians to affect change for members.
  • Be able to develop and champion Prospect’s public affairs and media work.
  • Be confident in giving strategic advice to senior officials and union representatives.
  • Want to take the next step in your career in public affairs building on a background in public affairs, politics, public policy, government, think tanks or campaigning.
