My employer is refusing to use the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, and I am being made redundant, can I challenge this?

Last updated: 06 Aug 2020

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme runs to the end of October, although employers must start to pay some of the costs from 1 August onwards. If an employer decides to dismiss a worker while they have the option of claiming for wages through the scheme, this might make the dismissal unfair.

Employees with more than two years continuous employment may be able to bring a claim of unfair dismissal through the Employment Tribunal. Contact Prospect for more advice on this.
