Downgrade of air traffic control services at Benbecula cancelled

24 March 2022

Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd have announced that they are pausing a review of air traffic control services at Benbecula Airport in the Western Isles.

The news means that air traffic control services will not be downgraded as previously planned.

David Avery, Prospect Negotiator, said:

“HIAL’s announcement of a five year pause on the review of the Air Traffic Control service provision at Benbecula airport is a welcome one for the island and for our members, preserving both service level and high value jobs.

“This was Prospect’s final point of contention with HIAL on their review of Air Traffic Management Systems and marks a victory for common sense.”
