Excellent news that second area has come forward for the GDF

Prospect, a major union for workers in the energy sector has welcomed news that Allerdale has come forward as the second area to form a working group for the Geological Diposal Facility.

Sue Ferns, senior deputy general secretary of Prospect union, said:

“It is excellent news that a second area, Allerdale, has come forward as a potential home for the Geological Disposal Facility.

“Wherever it is located the GDF will offer the possibility of long term jobs, skills and investment.

“This project is vital for the country and for future generations and it is right that it is made a high priority.

“The UK is a world leader in civil nuclear technology. The GDF will help us to maintain that and nurture those jobs and skills into the future as we strive to reach Net Zero carbon.”
