Safe transition needed for returning to the workplace

9 July 2021

Mike Clancy responds to Chancellor Rishi Sunak’s remarks about returning to the office:

“At last week’s press conference, the Prime Minister said that the safe return to workplaces for those that have been working from home was a matter for employers and employees to agree, now the Chancellor is undermining that by telling employees to get back to the office.

“We have an opportunity here to reset the relationship between employers and employees, based on the recognition that a one-size-fits-all policy works for neither. The important thing is to transition to a safe and sustainable new normal that balances the needs of businesses and workers – mutually agreed flexibility to maximise the benefits of both office and home working.

“The people who businesses should be listening to about how to manage this process are their employees and their unions, not the Chancellor.”
