Course resources – Prospect activists

Welcome to our Activists page

This page is for activists looking to build in their workplace through activity, gaining members, and union visibility. These three key elements are vital when seeking to win trade union recognition from your employer.

Recognition allows members to have a real input in their workplace on working conditions, pay, and policies.

We have developed this training course for member and rep activists to offer offer support and advice to help you in gaining recognition.

Anyone wishing to attend the training should contact their organiser.

The training runs over 3 sessions (approximately 1 hour in length). Your dedicated organiser/team will provide the training, so you can chat directly about your branch needs and what timescales work for your fellow activists.

  • Session 1 and 2 ideally to be completed within 2 weeks.
  • After session 2, you’ll be working with an action plan to ensure you fulfil what you need to ensure the smoothest possible process.
  • Session 3 will take place once recognition has been achieved or it’s close.

The resources below are a culmination of ideas from staff and reps/branches/activists who have recently achieved recognition.

Post workplace recognition. Once session 3 has been completed and signed off by the organiser, activists will have access to all other courses from Level 2 onwards.

If you are thinking about approaching your employer for recognition, it is worthwhile to do when you feel at the strongest as a collective. Chat to staff about the benefits of the union and why recognition would add value to your workplace.  Recognition won’t happen overnight, so you must have an appetite for a campaign and thrive in a challenge. Your dedicated union staff can support you with this.
