Being a rep
What are reps?
Representatives (reps) are members who have volunteered to take a more active role in the union. They are crucial in getting members’ views heard at a local and national level.
Different types of rep
Not all reps have a recognised job description. Some can simply be described as local representatives: the face of the union in a particular workplace or location. But others have very specific responsibilities, usually defined in the branch rules.
Training for reps
We offer free training for our reps every step of the way. Training helps reps to maximise their effectiveness as a rep to ensure their branch can be as successful as possible. Our training will also help reps develop in their careers outside of their union role.
Support you can expect from us
When you volunteer for Prospect we don’t leave you to sink or swim! The union relies on local volunteers and we’ll do everything we can to support you in your role.
Guides for reps
We have a number of guides for reps to use as a reference as they go about their role.
