Aviation needs more certainty to plan and protect jobs and skills

5 April 2021

Following the Prime Minister’s update on the Global Travel Taskforce, Prospect has urgently called for greater certainty for the aviation sector.

Mike Clancy, Prospect General Secretary, said:

“Aviation needs months to plan for restart, allowing passengers to book and skills to be supported in areas like air traffic control. We needed certainty and a promise of additional support but instead we have more delay and vague allusions to something in the future.

“Aviation isn’t like other industries and it needs bespoke treatment. Alongside a roadmap for reopening, aviation needs an economic support package which is linked to returning passenger numbers, without this the recovery will stall and more jobs will be lost.

“A functioning aviation sector is a prerequisite to national and regional economic recovery, the update due later this week must start to provide the certainty this sector badly needs.”
