As well as the 5% hundreds of arts venues, museums, libraries and heritage buildings will receive a share of more than £270 million as part of an Arts Everywhere Fund.

Mike Clancy, General Secretary of Prospect, said:

“The announcement of a 5% increase in funding for cultural venues is welcome and hopefully demonstrates recognition of the economic and social importance of arts and heritage and its contribution to the growth agenda.

“Our culture is not just about artefacts and buildings however, it’s about the people who bring it to life. Some of the new funding must be used to address endemic low pay and end job losses in the sector.

“This vital sector is facing a crisis in pay and retention which has to be addressed – we need a long term workforce plan to ensure this historic sector is fit for the future.”
