Ministers must protect UK hi-tech industry 

Responding to the news that the Government has approved the sale of semi-conductor manufacturer Newport Wafer Fab to a Chinese-owned firm, Prospect General Secretary Mike Clancy said:

“Coming so soon after the announcement of job cuts at Arm, this represents a further blow to British leadership in this critical high-tech industry.

National security, industry and jobs are coming together like never before in our fractious world. If the Government is serious about building a high-productivity, high-wage economy, we need a new strategy to protect and expand the UK’s long-term capability in the semi-conductor industry.”
