No support for aviation in the Budget

4 March 2021

Garry Graham, Prospect deputy general secretary, responding to the lack of support for aviation in the Budget, said:

“The aviation industry is one of the industries worst affected by the pandemic but, despite being essential to the recovery, it has been almost entirely overlooked by the Chancellor in today’s Budget. There was no mention of aviation, no mention of airports, no mention of its importance to the economy and no help for an industry which supports hundreds of thousands of British jobs.

“We have already seen significant job losses and many more on furlough in aviation and related industry. Without targeted support from the government there is a real risk that vital infrastructure is permanently degraded. If this happens it will be much harder for the wider economy, particularly tourism, regional and international business to recover.”
