The government has announced a new partnership between the UK and USA to accelerate fusion energy demonstration and commercialisation.

The strategic partnership between the UK’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and the Department of Energy of the United States of America (DOE) aims to accelerate the demonstration and commercialisation of fusion energy.

Sue Ferns, Senior Deputy General Secretary of Prospect, said:

“This new partnership reaffirms UKAEA’s world-leading position in fusion research.

“International collaboration on R&D is vital to reaching our long-term energy goals.

“The UK has the chance to show true leadership by guaranteeing sustained public investment in fusion and developing the skilled STEM workforce who will deliver it.”
