Prospect is proud to have been part of the coalition arguing for block on onshore wind to be lifted
It has been reported that the UK government is finally abandoning its opposition to subsidising onshore wind farms. This is something Prospect has been arguing for as necessary for meeting the UK’s green energy needs.
Sue Ferns, Prospect senior deputy general secretary responded to the news:
“Excluding onshore wind and solar from these auctions never made sense and Prospect is proud to have been part of the coalition arguing for this ban to be lifted.
“The drive for Net Zero will mean more renewables, but this must also be accompanied by green jobs in the UK and a plan to help the energy workforce transition into low-carbon jobs.
“The government must urgently bring forward an energy white paper with a holistic plan for reaching net zero including removing planning barriers to expanding onshore wind, a workable plan for low-carbon new nuclear, and a workforce strategy built around a Just Transition.”
