The Fire Leaders Association, part of Prospect, as the trade union for senior fire officers is disappointed in both the way that the first report has been leaked, and the sequencing of the results of the inquiry.

  •  the leak is a breach of the trust given to the Inquiry team by all who participated.
  •  the leak has removed the ability of the core participants to fully consider the content of the report prior to publication, thus ignoring the families’ dignity in the grieving process.
  •  the inquiry sequencing is incorrect – an analysis of the building’s inherent problems should have preceded any assessment of the emergency services’ response.
  •  it is wholly unreasonable to single out and scapegoat individuals when there is no available critique of years of under-investment in the service, ministerial decisions on building regulations, or the building’s inherent failures.

Garry Graham , Prospect’s deputy general secretary, said:

“The leaking and publication of this report are deplorable.

“Everyone involved that night and after deserves dignity and respect. The leaking of the report and the publication of extracts in pursuit of a scoop does not aid public understanding and will compound the grief and sadness of many.”
