Prospect takes defence procurement plan to the Scottish Parliament
Prospect, at the invite of Paul Sweeney MSP, has addressed the Scottish Parliament Cross Party Group (CPPG) on Maritime and Shipbuilding about the need for a rethink on defence procurement.
At a meeting in the Scottish Parliament, Prospect National Secretary for Scotland and Ireland, Richard Hardy introduced independent expert Dave Watson who spoke about Prospect’s recent report “Design, Build and Maintain: Effective Defence Procurement” which he authored.
The CPPG asked questions on the report which were answered by Dave Watson, Richard Hardy, and Bob King. Also in attendance from Babcock and the MOD were Prospect reps from Clyde and Rosyth.
Bob King, Prospect National Secretary for defence, said:
“We were grateful to be given the opportunity to address the Maritime CPG and welcomed Paul Sweeney’s support for both reforming the procurement process to benefit UK companies and workers, as well as his help in highlighting the important work done by Prospect members in Scotland at Rosyth, Clyde, Scotstoun and Govan.
“It’s vital that, along with supporting the workers involved, we campaign to change the defence procurement regulations and system, so, like other countries around the world, the UK can benefit from the fruits of its own labour.”
