Statement on far-right violence

Prospect members will have been shocked by the continuing far-right violence that has been taking place across the country.

Prospect has joined together with other trade unions through the TUC in support of a common trade union statement, calling for “an end to the violence and intimidation, and for all those who perpetrate these acts to be brought to justice.”

Some members will have been directly affected in their jobs by these events, including for example in HM Prison and Probation service, and also in bringing news broadcasts of these incidents to TV and radio. Members have our full support as they do these challenging roles and others at the front line of responding to these events.

We also recognise that for many workers this surge in xenophobia will be causing them real concern and making them feel insecure. We urge all employers to consider this and make sure they put in place all measures necessary to reassure their workforces.
