Supporting the P&O unions and workers

23 March 2022

Prospect has been appalled to see the events at P&O ferries and the disgraceful way that workers have been treated.

Port of Dover

Prospect is supporting the unions representing these staff, Nautilus International and the RMT, and we are encouraging all members to support the TUC’s petition on Megaphone.

We will continue to work through the TUC and, as a fellow transport union, the European Transport Workers’ Federation to support the unions involved on the immediate situation as well as to campaign against regressive employment practices like fire and rehire.

Read more about the statement from 30 trade unions, including Prospect, on The Independent.

Mike Clancy, general secretary of Prospect said:

“The manner of dismissal of workers at P&O will appal any trade union member.

“I know I speak for all our members, when I say we stand in solidarity with these workers.

“Unfortunately, the situation they face, does not come as a surprise. It is time that the government brought forward a much delayed Employment Bill, one that strengthens workers’ rights, bans practices like fire and rehire used by bad employers, and encourage genuine partnerships between unions and management.”

Transport

Prospect has members working in aviation, road, rail and maritime transportation, as well as regulation and research.
