Tech union welcomes Newport Wafer Fab call-in

Prospect has responded to the news that the Government has called in the acquisition of semi-conductor manufacturer Newport Wafer Fab by a Chinese-owned firm.
Mike Clancy, General Secretary said:
“Prospect has been calling for the Government to intervene to stop the sale of this leading British business in a critical high-tech industry to a Chinese-owned firm and we are glad they have finally called it in for a full security assessment.
“National security, industry and jobs are coming together like never before in our fractious world. This intervention must be the first step towards a strategy to protect and expand the UK’s long-term capability in the semi-conductor industry.”
