Warm words won’t thaw BT pay freeze

25 March 2021

Prospect’s BT Committee is meeting today to discuss how to respond to provocative moves by BT to freeze pay without holding any meaningful discussions with Unions.

BT is planning on freezing pay for a second consecutive year, in what would be a devastating blow to members who have gone above and beyond to keep the country connected during this extraordinary 12 months.

Prospect recently put forward a reasonable, responsible, and perfectly affordable pay proposal to BT bosses. Despite Philip Jansen’s warm words about talks with the Union, he has rejected our proposals in favour of a real terms pay reduction, without engaging in meaningful discussions with the Union.

BT’s proposals would leave managers significantly poorer by June 2022 and Prospect will be discussing next steps today.
