Workers must be consulted on the use of AI
Andrew Pakes, Prospect Research Director, welcoming the TUC’s important digital and AI strategy, said:
“AI and new tech are transforming the way we are managed and work, making data the new frontline of workers’ rights.
“Over the last year we have seen an acceleration in digital technology with one-in-five companies already using surveillance to monitor workers or planning to do so.
“Workers need to know when they are being monitored, they need to be consulted on the introduction of this technology, and there has to be transparency so that decisions made by algorithms or on the back of this data can be challenged.
“One of the first things we can do as a nation is to join other advanced economies and give people a legal right to disconnect and switch off from work. If you’re not working you shouldn’t be tied to your digital device or worrying about work.
