Years of flat cash funding have left the Scottish heritage sector in crisis
The Scotsman has reported that the National Museum of Scotland is admitting to becoming “frayed around the edges” due to funding issues.
The museum said that it was struggling to find the money to meet pay deals and that it would need to consider stopping some of the things it was currently doing.
David Avery, Prospect Negotiator, said:
“The recent announcement from the First Minister about the intent to increase culture funding over the next five year is welcome but our members are telling us that after multiple years of flat cash funding from government there is a crisis in the sector now.
“Organisations are struggling to recruit and retain staff due to poor pay, and work on critical infrastructure which is needed to maintain our national collections for future generations is being delayed and the capacity to display these collections is being diminished due to under investment.”
