There are some really simple steps and considerations you can take to help support a neurodivergent colleague at work:
- Be proactive in creating inclusive work environments – for example, distributing accurate information about neurodiversity, negotiating for improvements in policy and practice and publicising support for neurodivergent employees.
- Challenge misunderstandings and negative stereotypes.
- Be aware of sensitivity to noise, smells, light and so on – choose a quiet and comfortable venue for meetings and interviews
- Ask them what format for written communications is best for them – for example, emails, different coloured paper, larger font size.
