Introduction to employment law
This course will focus on an introduction to members’ rights at work. These sessions are geared at giving some basic tools for reps to use in negotiations and when dealing with personal cases.

- Now booking next course Wednesday PM, April 17, 24, and 1 May 2024.
- Attendance at both sessions required to complete the course.
- 2 days in person, or if online spread over 3 x 3 hour sessions online
- Reps would need to commit to attending all sessions.
Who is the course for?
Experienced reps (ideally completed Reps part 1 and Reps part 2) and those who have a role in dealing with personal cases for members.
If you’ve not completed the training but have extensive experience, your Prospect official can endorse your attendance.
What will I learn?
- Introduction to statutory rights – looking at the range of rights, time limits, qualifying periods and status.
- Discrimination law, including who is covered by the Equality Act and the types of unlawful conduct.
- Unfair dismissal and redundancy – looking at what amounts to a dismissal (including constructive dismissal) and how a dismissal can be unfair. The rules around redundancy and consultation obligations.
