BAE Surface Ships Branch AGM: Member democracy and workplace priorities
Members of Prospect’s BAE Surface Ships branch recently came together for their Annual General Meeting (AGM), providing an important opportunity to reflect on branch activity, discuss key workplace issues and strengthen democratic engagement.
The AGM included branch position elections, giving members the opportunity to help shape the leadership and direction of the branch for the year ahead.
Members also received a wider Prospect and defence sector update from Negotiations Officer William Dooley, who outlined current challenges and developments across the industry.
Alongside this, the meeting featured a discussion on pay, with members considering the implications of the recent pay award, as well as updates relating to the NSIGN contract and broader business developments affecting the company.
The branch secretary’s report provided members with a clear overview of these company specific matters and the work being undertaken on their behalf.
Speaking after the meeting, William Dooley, Prospect Negotiations Officer, said:
“Branch AGMs are a vital part of how our union works. They give members the chance to hear updates, raise concerns, elect their representatives and help shape the priorities of the branch. Strong member involvement is essential to ensuring our union remains democratic, representative and effective in defending members’ interests.”
He added that the AGM demonstrates the continued importance of active branch organisation in keeping members informed and involved.
“A well organised branch means its reps are ready to respond to the issues that matter most in the workplace.”
