Both major parties commit to Sizewell C and further nuclear in their manifestos
The Labour Party has launched its election manifesto with a commitment to a next generation of nuclear power, including getting on with Sizewell C.
With the Conservative Party also committing to Sizewell C and new nuclear that means both major parties have signed up to the future of nuclear power in the UK.
Sue Ferns, Senior Deputy General Secretary of Prospect, said:
“Whoever wins the election will immediately have to get on with the job of building new nuclear generating capacity.
“This will be a vital part of our energy mix if are to achieve our net zero goals but it needs a firm commitment from government to ensure the required investment.
“The commitment from both major parties to Sizewell C and other new nuclear is welcome – we now need to get on with it at the soonest opportunity after the election to secure the investment, jobs and skills we need.”
