Changing faces again at the Department for Education
New Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has rung in the ministerial changes once again at the Department for Education, with Gillian Keegan MP becoming the fifth Education Secretary in the last year.
Gillian Keegan takes over at the Department for Education having previously served as a minister at the Foreign Office and the Department for Health and Social Care.
Since September 2021, the role of Secretary of State for Education has been held by:
- Nadhim Zahawi MP (15 September 2021 – 5 July 2022)
- Michelle Donelan MP (5 July – 7 July)
- James Cleverly MP (7 July – 6 September)
- Kit Malthouse MP (6 September – 25 October)
- Gillian Keegan (25 October – present)
Education ministers
Rishi Sunak’s government reshuffle has brought further changes among the ministerial positions at the Department for Education.
Nick Gibb MP and Robert Halfon MP both make a return to the department as Education Ministers.
Andrea Jenkyns MP is kept in her role as Minister for Skills.
Claire Coutinho MP has been appointed parliamentary under secretary of state at the Department for Education.
The ministerial team is rounded out by Baroness Barran who is taking up an unpaid role as minister for the school and college system.
