Defence spending delays symptomatic of government lack of strategy
Government strategy on defence is to “kick the can down the road”, says Garry Graham
This morning The Times has reported that Gavin Williamson’s update on the future of the armed forces will not include any decisions on spending. Prospect deputy general secretary Garry Graham said:
“Reports that a ministerial announcement on the modernising defence programme today will contain no detailed conclusions and no new money is symptomatic of a government who have lost their way on defence and whose key strategy appears to be to kick the can down the road.
“At a time of increasing international threats the UK defence sector needs increased investment and the certainty that they have the support and backing of government. The statement from the government today is unlikely to provide either.”
