Elon Musk must stop playing Scrooge
Prospect union has slammed Twitter for emailing UK staff at risk of redundancy after 5pm on the Friday before Christmas, giving them less than one working day to reply accepting the offer of an Individual Consultation meeting.
Mike Clancy, General Secretary of Prospect union, said:
“It is unbelievable that Twitter have waited until the Friday night before Christmas to invite staff to meetings to discuss whether they will be sacked or not.
“This is the worst of US big tech culture imported into the UK. Staff deserve better than to be treated as an inconvenient afterthought and invited to meetings about their own redundancy over the festive break.
“Elon Musk needs to stop playing Scrooge and start treating his staff like they are humans.”
The email sent to staff after 5pm on Friday 23 December reads as follows:
Hello,
We are commencing Individual Consultations and if you would like to have an Individual Consultation meeting please reply to this email by 5pm Wednesday 28 December 2022. You will then be sent a calendar invite for the appointment. Individual Consultations will be held on 28, 29 & 30 December, and 03, 04 January 2023.
We are aware that the Christmas break is upon us so you may not get a response immediately.
