Gaza ceasefire and release of hostages

14 October 2025

Prospect has responded to the ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages this week.

Mike Clancy, Prospect General Secretary, said:

“The ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages, will be welcomed around the world. The death, pain and suffering we have seen has been appalling, we must hope this now leads to a just and lasting peace in Palestine, Israel, and the wider region, but it is clear that this will need a sustained diplomatic effort to achieve.

“Governments around the world, including our own government here in the UK, must also rise to the challenge of providing the massive humanitarian and relief and development support that will be urgently required to rebuild shattered basic services in Gaza.

“The ceasefire should also give impetus to efforts here in the UK to rebuild community relations. The last two years have seen a rising tide of both antisemitism and anti-Muslim prejudice, with some seeking to use the conflict to sow further division in our society. As trade unionists our role is to foster dialogue helping tackle racism and prejudice, so we must redouble our efforts to do this.”
