Guernsey civil servants to receive significant boost in representation

14 April 2016

Members of the Association of Guernsey Civil Servants are looking to recruit a full-time negotiations executive based on the island.

AGCS’ parent union Prospect is advertising the post in the Guernsey Press until the closing date of 26 April.

Prospect negotiations officer Ben Middleton said the move marks a considerable increase in the union support available to Guernsey’s public servants.

“The scale and pace of change facing Prospect’s members in Guernsey is significant and we want to meet their needs by boosting our existing team with an additional full-time member of staff based on the island.

“This is an exciting time to join the team. We have a new branch president and are changing our branch structure to mirror proposed changes to the civil service departmental structures.

“Our new structure will allow members to have better access to the association’s policy and priority setting work, greater transparency and the ability for early and constructive engagement with the employer on any proposed changes.

“Members will be able to access support more quickly, giving them a stronger voice when and where they need it. The extra resource also means AGCS can proactively pursue improvements to Guernsey’s employment legislation.

“This is a good time to be involved with the AGCS so come and join us!”
