If Arm sale collapses government must protect jobs and R&D spending
It has been reported that the purchase of silicon chip designer Arm by US company Nvidia is to be abandoned.
Nvidia started the purchase almost two years ago but has failed to get through significant regulatory barriers in the USA, UK and China. Now executives are said think that the purchase will have to be abandoned.
General Secretary of Prospect Mike Clancy said:
“If these reports prove accurate, they will create considerable uncertainty for the Arm workforce.“Arm is one of the UK’s most important tech companies, and the government must make sure that jobs and spending on research and development are fully protected regardless of the company’s future ownership.
“The Prime Minister has talked about restoring Britain’s place as a scientific superpower, this deal is an opportunity to turn this rhetoric into action.”
