Ironbridge Gorge Museums Trust to Transfer to the National Trust

5 November 2025

The National Trust has agreed to take over the Ironbridge Gorge Museums Trust (IGMT), supported by a £9 million investment from Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS). The transfer is scheduled to commence on 2 March 2026.

IGMT comprises of 10 museums, buildings, and monuments. The move comes as the Trust manages an annual operating deficit of approximately £800,000, highlighting the need for structural change to ensure the ongoing care and management of its heritage sites.

Under the National Trust, the focus will be on maintaining and protecting the cultural heritage of Ironbridge, increasing visitor engagement, and supporting long-term financial sustainability.

Prospect will continue to support IGMT members throughout the transfer and will be monitoring the situation as the transition progresses.
