It is right that the Code of Conduct for MPs is revisited

23 September 2020

The House of Commons Committee on Standards is launching an inquiry into the MPs’ code of conduct.

House of Parliament

The Code of Conduct describes the responsibilities that MPs have as Members of the House and are based on a set of principles which members are expected to abide by.

Garry Graham, Prospect deputy general secretary, said:

“In light of recent controversy regarding the behaviour of a minority of MPs it is right that the Code of Conduct for MPs is revisited and brought in line with modern expectations of workplace standards.

“Parliament is a place of work, and although MPs have a special position that does not mean that they should be exempted from rules that would apply in any other workplace.

“On behalf of staff in parliament Prospect will be seeking to engage with this review to make sure that their views are heard and that parliament can take further action towards being a great place to work for everyone.”
