Mike Clancy’s response to Jacob Rees-Mogg’s comments on civil servants

21 February 2022

Mike Clancy, Prospect General Secretary, writes to Jacob Rees-Mogg in response to his comments in The Times over the weekend.

Mike Clancy, Prospect General Secretary, said:

“We are a proudly politically independent union – we will work with any government to deliver for our members and the public they serve. But we will also challenge any attack by politicians on the invaluable work of our dedicated public service members, who have served the country so well, particularly during a period of national upheaval.”

“Prospect’s public service members have continued to deliver for the country despite having endured 12 years of real terms pay cuts. They do the work they do because they are committed to making a difference to people’s lives here in the UK, whether keeping our nation safe in an increasingly uncertain world, supporting our criminal justice system, or working at the cutting edge of science. What they deserve is a pay rise – not cheap shots in the press that they are unable to respond to.”
