MP free to visit Commons despite serious allegations against him
The Sun and Talk TV have revealed that a sitting Conservative MP has been reported to the police for serious sexual offenses including rape.
It is reported that the MP was referred to the police after an independent investigation by lawyers at the behest of the Conservative party. No further action against the MP has been taken by the Conservative Party and he is free to visit the House of Commons.
Mike Clancy, General Secretary of Prospect union, said:
“The report that another MP has been accused of sexual offences raises important questions as to who knew what when, and what have they done about it.
“This MP remains free to visit the House of Commons and interact with staff despite these very serious allegations. This highlights yet again that there is no fit-for-purpose process in place to deal with this type of case and make Parliament a safe place to work.
“The Commons Commission is finally looking into excluding MPs from parliament when they are under investigation for this kind of thing – that inquiry needs to be expedited.”
