National Library of Wales withdraws pension proposals following Prospect campaign

Prospect members at the National Library of Wales have secured an important breakthrough after the employer withdrew its proposed changes to the pension scheme.

Earlier this year, members voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action after the employer proposed changes to the pension scheme. Action short of a strike had been due to begin on 27 July.

Following discussions between the employer, trade unions and the Welsh Government, the employer has now withdrawn its proposals and negotiations will continue to find a way forward.

As a result, the planned action short of a strike will no longer commence. However, Prospect’s industrial action mandate remains live for the next 12 months, meaning members could still take industrial action if an acceptable agreement on the pension scheme cannot be reached.

Jane Lancastle, Prospect Negotiations Officer, said:

“The employer has withdrawn its proposed changes to the pension scheme, which is a positive step and allows negotiations to continue.

This breakthrough has only been achieved because members stood together. While we welcome the employer’s decision, our industrial action mandate remains live and we remain committed to securing a fair outcome that protects our members’ pensions.”
