New Group Executive Council for Prospect Education and Children’s Services sets priorities for 2022/23

21 February 2022

Prospect’s Education and Children’s Services Group Executive Council (GEC) met in February to work through its priorities for 2022 and 2023.

The GEC continues to work closely with professional union staff and officers to build on the workplans that we have set out and that we updated members on at the Biennial General Meeting in Leeds and online last November.

Our priorities are –

  • Providing professional and timely personal case advice to members
  • Recruiting new members into the union
  • Maintaining support for collective bargaining in particular with Soulbury roles in local authorities
  • Supporting members working where the union is not recognised
  • Improving the coverage of reps and advocates for the union
  • Supporting devolved and regional activities
  • Campaigning for our members and their professionals in education
  • Building on the work started to develop support and services for self-employed consultants
  • Communicating with members and giving multiple opportunities to improve accessibility using a variety of tools and platforms
  • Engaging in consultations and working with stakeholders, including the DfE and others on education policy areas, in particular mindful of the themes of leadership, management and governance and pandemic recovery –
    • SEND
    • Access and Inclusion
    • Local Education Systems

Commenting on the plan, Steve Thomas, Group Secretary said,

“I am looking forward to working with the new Group Executive Council to deliver the key objectives we have set out.

Prospect members in Education and Children’s Services (ECS) have told us that they value both our trade union role and the voice of the profession that we provide is unique for non-teaching education professionals.

The landscape for the profession is changing and it is vital that our members voices are heard.”
