New munitions and energetics factories is boost for UK security and jobs, says Prospect

19 November 2025

At least 13 new sites across the UK for new munitions and energetics factories, which will support around 1,000 new jobs, have been identified by the government.

The defence industry is being invited to submit their proposals to the government for the new factories that will make munitions and military explosives to boost the UK’s warfighting readiness.

Prospect General Secretary, Mike Clancy, said:

“This investment is welcome and reflects both our position in an increasingly insecure world and the need for sovereign capability in defence.

“Defence spending supports jobs across the UK and is a key part of our economy. Investment in new capability should be matched by a commitment to good quality unionised jobs, and a coordinated plan to ensure we develop the skills needed to fill them.”

The areas for the identified sites are:

  • Monmouthshire
  • Cumbria
  • Dumfriesshire
  • Ayrshire
  • Shropshire
  • Cheshire
  • Derbyshire
  • Essex
  • Worcestershire
  • Hampshire
  • Pembrokeshire
  • Stirlingshire
