New policy on bullying and harassment in Parliament launched
Prospect reps have been developing the policy alongside a steering group
Responding to the formal publication of the Independent Complaints and Grievance Policy (ICGP) scheme delivery report Prospect deputy general secretary Garry Graham said:
“As one of the largest unions in Parliament we have been involved in the steering group at every stage of the process of creating this policy. Our members are the backbone of Parliament and deserve to work in an exemplary environment.
“So we have been determined to ensure that our members had early access to the range of new services available under the ICGP, such as the dedicated sexual harassment policy and the support services and helplines that will be available to vulnerable staff.
“However, this policy is just a starting point and Prospect will be seeking to ensure that the recommendations from the Dame Laura Cox review are fully integrated into the policy at the six-month review.
“We will also continue to press for a solution to the historical cases issue that provides not just closure to staff with an historic allegation, but proper sanctioning of MPs whose unacceptable behaviour in the past has gone unpunished.”
