Ofgem’s Storm Arwen report lets the network operators off the hook

9 June 2022

Prospect has responded to Ofgem’s report on Storm Arwen’s impact on the electricity network.

Sue Ferns, Senior Deputy General Secretary said:

“Whilst this report has some sensible findings, ultimately it lets the network operators off the hook for allowing staffing levels to fall dangerously low, and for failing to tackle an epidemic of stress, excessive workloads and fatigue.

“Despite repeated efforts by Prospect, Ofgem has refused to consider sustainable approaches to improving workforce resilience as part of efforts to learn lessons from Storm Arwen. As a result we cannot be confident that our electricity networks will be substantively better equipped to cope when the next storm hits.”
