Prospect launches sexual harassment support service after MoD revelations

24 May 2024

Prospect has launched a helpline for members who experience sexual harassment at work.

The service was launched on the basis of evidence from members in sectors as diverse as defence and entertainment.

Members can use the service to record their experiences and so help the union to track problem areas. They also have the option of talking to a trained staff member and, if they wish, discussing any next steps they may wish to take, for example in raising the issue formally.

Prospect is rolling the service out across its membership after a successful trial in its defence and freelance areas.

Sue Ferns, Senior Deputy General Secretary of Prospect, said:

“Ideally one’s employer or engager would be the first port of call to raise concerns of this nature but when trust is lacking and workers do not have confidence that the issue will be dealt with, Prospect will help members to access the support they need.

“Sexual harassment in the workplace remains all too prevalent and can ruin lives, so providing members with appropriate support is essential.

“Prospect’s position is one of zero tolerance – that means not just saying it but doing something about it.”
