Prospect members manage disruption after Heathrow closure
Following the fire near Heathrow Airport, Prospect members have been working hard to manage flight disruption.
Our members in Air Traffic Control, particularly those working in the airspace over the North Atlantic and over the UK, have been safely diverting flights to alternate airports.
Hundreds of flights have been affected so far. This unexpected closure creates significant extra work, and our members have been managing this effectively, finding space to divert flights to airports all over Europe and working overnight as soon as the news Heathrow was shut was received.
Our members will continue to work hard over the coming days to help reposition aircraft and support the industry to return to normal as soon as possible.
Prospect members in the energy sector are also working hard to restore power to homes and businesses affected by the fire.
The skills, knowledge and dedication of our members is essential in our national response to these emergencies, and we are proud to represent them.
