Prospect members to take further strike action at Royal Museums Greenwich
Prospect members at Royal Museums Greenwich will take further strike action on 31 October as part of a long-running dispute over pay, terms and conditions.
The union members took strike action for two days in August, resulting in the closure of some sites and the cancellation of a number of events related to the solar eclipse.
While some progress has been made in negotiations with management, particularly over use of fixed-term contracts and annual leave, the union is frustrated with the absence of binding commitments and timelines which it says risk undermining the agreement.
The union says that its remaining demands are perfectly reasonable and that they hope that management will agree to them so that they can call off the strike.
The remaining issues include:
- Concrete plans and timeframes on RMG commitments to (A) write a new annual leave policy, (B) accredit for London Living Wage in 2028, and (C) make sure security workers can actually take their breaks.
- Guarantees that the new professional development framework will cover non-mandatory training
Prospect general secretary Mike Clancy said:
“Our members have shown great solidarity in this dispute, and have already achieved some tangible wins, and they are determined to see this through and secure these reasonable demands.
“We hope that management see sense and put forward acceptable proposals on the remaining disputed issues rather than risk a continuation of industrial action.”
