Prospect National Conference backs push for deeper UK–EU partnership that delivers for workers

26 June 2026

Prospect conference has voted to support a strengthened UK relationship with the European Union, with a clear focus on delivering for working people.

The motion by EDF branch calls on the union’s National Executive Committee (NEC) to develop and implement a plan to persuade the Government to negotiate the deepest possible partnership with the EU. Central to this approach is ensuring that any future UK–EU relationship prioritises the interests, rights and security of workers.

The motion debate drew strong support from sectors across Prospect’s membership, including contributions from aviation and creative industry workers. Delegates highlighted the importance of rebuilding ties in a way that supports collaboration, standardises regulations, and protects worker movement across key sectors where our members work.

As well as influencing government policy, the motion places Prospect at the forefront of the wider trade union movement’s response. It mandates the union to lead discussions within the Trades Union Congress (TUC) and to work in solidarity with like-minded trade unions across Europe. The aim is to build coordinated pressure for a stronger, fairer and more worker-focused UK–EU partnership.

By strengthening collaboration with European counterparts, Prospect will help ensure that workers’ voices are heard on both sides of the Channel, particularly at a time when international cooperation remains critical to tackling shared challenges.
