Prospect responds to briefing on tomorrow’s Immigration White Paper

11 May 2025

Commenting on briefing on tomorrow’s Immigration White Paper, Sue Ferns, Prospect Deputy General Secretary, said:

“International collaboration is vital to many scientific and technical areas. These sectors in turn are critical to the UK’s growth mission and industrial strategy.

“We have been calling for some time for this stronger emphasis on supporting workers to train and retrain into these kinds of roles, to alleviate skills shortages. Bringing forward the promised workforce strategies must now be an urgent priority.

“However, continually increasing visa costs and requirements has the potential to undermine efforts to attract critically important collaboration and could undermine success in AI, tech, science, engineering and a host of other areas.”
