Prospect signs MOD pledge to offer more work opportunities for young people

Prospect, together with some of the UK’s leading defence companies, has signed up to a new Ministry of Defence agreement that expands the route into work, apprenticeships and training for young people in the sector.

The scheme aims to offer 40,000 young people, aged 18-24, opportunities and employment in skilled defence careers every year by 2030, rising to 50,000 by 2035.

Among the companies also pledging their support are Airbus, Babcock, BAE Systems, Helsing, Leonardo, Lockheed Martin, MBDA, Navantia, Palantir, QinetiQ, Rolls Royce, Safran and Thales.

The agreement, a key part of the upcoming Industrial Strategy Defence Jobs Plan, was signed by the Defence Secretary Wes Streeting MP and industry leaders, at a roundtable in London on Wednesday 23 September.

When published, the Defence Jobs Plan will set out how government and industry will address the demand for around 53,000 additional workers across the industry by 2035.
