Prospect urges government to rethink its defence funding plans after Healey resignation
Prospect has urged the government to rethink its plans for defence funding after John Healey MP resigned today as the Defence Secretary because the much anticipated Defence Investment Plan ‘falls well short of what is required for defence and the country at this dangerous time.’

In response to the resignation, Prospect General Secretary Mike Clancy said:
“Prospect has worked closely with John Healey during his term of office, and it is with great regret that we see him resign.
“Our members in the defence sector are working hard to keep the country safe, but it is clear we need more investment into defence and security in the coming years if we are to respond to the growing threats we face.
“The former Defence Secretary is right to argue that the anticipated funding package was simply insufficient and would have resulted in deep damage to our defence capabilities which would leave Britain and our allies vulnerable in the future.
The government must now rethink its commitment and publish a fully-funded and credible Defence Investment Plan as soon as possible.”
