Prospect welcomes Gaza peace plan

30 July 2025

Prospect has welcomed the UK Government’s statement on a proposal for a peace plan in Gaza and a path towards recognising the state of Palestine. We are also calling on the government to explore all avenues to exert pressure on the US and Israeli governments to bring the conflict to an end and get aid to civilians.

Commenting on the statement, Prospect General Secretary Mike Clancy said:

“The situation in Gaza is beyond intolerable, the pictures we have seen on our TV screens are horrendous and bring home the huge suffering being inflicted. Prospect totally condemns the appalling way that innocent civilians have been treated in this conflict.

“The priority now is to secure a sustainable ceasefire and get food and medical aid to the Palestinian civilians who desperately need it, alongside the immediate release of the remaining hostages. This has to quickly build toward a lasting two-state solution, with a free and independent state of Palestine which is swiftly recognised by the UK.

“We understand that the process of securing this peace is delicate, with tough diplomacy needed, and that the UK alone cannot end this conflict. But we urge the government to redouble its efforts alongside our allies to bring effective pressure to bear on the Israeli government and on the US administration which has a unique ability to influence the situation.”
