The FWA is being put in place to help transform labour market enforcement, protect workers from bad employers, and level the playing field for businesses that pay fairly. This will create a single place where workers and employers can turn for help, reducing fragmentation and improving efficiency and impact.
The FWA will aim to resolve issues upstream by supporting employers that want to comply with the law while taking tough action against those businesses that flout the law, levelling the playing field and supporting growth.
The advisory board is made up of figures from business and trade unions, as well as independent experts, and will advise the FWA as the Employment Rights Act comes into force.
Mike Clancy, Prospect General Secretary, said:
“It is an honour to be appointed to the inaugural Fair Work Agency advisory board.
“The Employment Rights Act 2025 represents a generational rebalancing of rights in favour of workers but there is a huge amount of work to do ensuring that it is implemented and managed fairly and in a way that works for employers and workers.
“The Fair Work Agency will play an important role in making sure businesses and other employers are able to fulfil their obligations. I aim to make sure the voice of working people will always be at the forefront of the Agency’s mission, and that my experience as a union negotiator, will help to find common ground between unions, employers and government as we attempt to make work fair for everyone.”
