Protecting our civil rights
Prospect has continued to express concerns about the government’s plans to put added restrictions on the right to protest contained in the Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill, and are working with the TUC to ensure union voices have been heard in this debate.
Last Monday, the TUC led on union involvement in an open letter signed by a range of NGOs, civil liberties and membership groups opposing the legislation.
After the events of the last week, it is even more disgraceful that the government is seeking to undermine the right to peaceful dissent. Prospect was also a part of the joint union statement last week against the epidemic of male violence and issues rightly raised in response to the murder of Sarah Everard.
We will keep working with the TUC over the coming weeks to oppose the bill in its future stages in Parliament.
